eLearning in gastroenterology

Delivering innovative, educational programs for overburdened health care professionals

The American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) was looking for innovative ways to produce educational programs versus “talking heads.” They were referred to Medical Minds by one of our clients from the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. That was the beginning of an ongoing relationship that is very important to us because we work directly with AGA members–physicians, NPs, and PAs–to transform their knowledge into graphically interesting, easy-to-understand programs often in short-bite formats that meet the needs of overburdened health care professionals and support them in providing quality care for their patients.

Biosimilars in IBD care
In the first program that we developed for AGA, we created a unique educational format designed to enhance physician-patient communication with 4 case-based scenarios. As you will see in this example, we recruited talent and recorded short patient vignettes based on real-world clinical scenarios. A panel of gastroenterologists discussed how they would communicate with each patient, and the patient came back on screen after the discussion to emphasize points the physicians had made that were helpful for them.

Important highlights from a 2019 annual meeting

At AGA’s annual conference, “Principles of GI for the NP and PA,” experts presented 30- and 60-minute live presentations on a full range of gastroenterology topics. The AGA team tasked us with converting selected presentations into approximately 7-minute eLearning programs on diverse topics:

  • Cirrhosis
  • Colorectal cancer screening
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Dysphagia
  • Brain-gut psychotherapies
  • Tips for the APP starting in GI practice
That might sound virtually impossible, but you can see it turned out really well!

The Roadmap for the Future of Colorectal Cancer Screening in the US
This great program is designed to encourage the gastroenterology community to work together to increase the rate of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening and reduce mortality due to CRC. We developed the program in collaboration with a very inspirational group of opinion leaders.
